“A major sporting event such as a FIFA World Cup is the perfect opportunity for many people to buy a new, perhaps larger, television or a projector that takes the TV experience to the next level. Current market figures for the first quarter of 2026 show that the trend toward larger screen diagonals continues unabated,” explains Carine Chardon, Managing Director of the industry organization GFU Consumer & Home Electronics GmbH. In Germany, TV sets with screens over 55 inches (140 cm) recorded a 17 percent increase in unit sales between January and March 2026, with revenue up three percent. This means TVs larger than 55 inches already account for 46 percent of revenue, and almost one-third of all televisions sold fall into this product category. For projectors, market figures for the first quarter of 2026 show an 11 percent increase in revenue, while short-throw projectors even recorded a 27 percent increase in revenue over the same period.
“However, the home electronics industry’s offering goes far beyond picture and sound. The selection includes beverage and outdoor refrigerators, ice makers, coolers, power stations for energy supply on the go or in the garden, fans with misting functions for hot days, and slushie makers. This means nothing stands in the way of a perfect and enjoyable football evening,” Chardon continues.
