HEMIX Q1/2024
The market starts weak: action cams and smartphones buck the trend.
The Home Electronics market begins 2024 with a significant decline (-4.5%). With total revenue of just under 11 billion euros, most segments are feeling the ongoing consolidation. Bucking the trend, smartphones (+4.2%), action cams (+35.1%) and small electrical appliances (+2.5%) are growing. TV sets (-11.4%) and video game consoles (-38.8%) are under particular pressure.
HEMIX Q1β2/2024
Market stabilization in sight: European Championship effect revives the TV market.
In the first half of 2024, the negative trend weakens. At 20.9 billion euros, the Home Electronics market is only 2.6% below the previous year. Positive momentum comes from the TV market (+1.8%), supported by the UEFA European Football Championship, as well as from smartphones (+2.8%), action cams (+34.4%) and small electrical appliances (+3.1%). Video game consoles, by contrast, slump by 42.0%.
HEMIX Q1β3/2024
Cautiously optimistic β revenue losses are shrinking.
After nine months of 2024, the decline narrows to just 2.7%. At 31.1 billion euros, the Home Electronics market is slowly approaching the previous yearβs level. Positive momentum comes from TV sets (+1.8%), action cams (+25.1%), media boxes/sticks (+18.1%) and small electrical appliances (+5.0%). The decline in the major appliances segment is also slowing significantly.
HEMIX Q1β4/2024
Negative trend slows: the year ends at -2.8%.
The year 2024 closes with revenue of 45.9 billion euros and a decline of 2.8% β significantly less severe than in the previous year (-4.4%). TV sets and small electrical appliances (+5.4%) are slowing the negative trend. Needs-based innovations and falling inflation are cautiously boosting consumer sentiment. The year marks the trough before stabilization in 2025.
HEMIX Q1/2023
Market in negative territory, only consumer electronics is growing.
The year 2023 starts with a significant decline of 4.9%. With total revenue of 11.4 billion euros, almost all segments are feeling consumer restraint. Bright spots include video game consoles with spectacular growth of +133%, audio/video accessories (+9.1%) and digital cameras (+8.9%). Smartphones and IT products, by contrast, are developing sharply downward.
HEMIX Q1β2/2024
Negative trend continues β gaming grows by a spectacular 90%
In the first half of 2023, the decline deepens to 6.4%. With total revenue of 21.3 billion euros, consumer restraint continues to shape the market picture. Video game consoles, however, grow by 90.4% β also because semiconductor components are available again. Audio/video accessories (+7.0%) and photography are also positive. Smartphones (-6.4%) and IT (-15.3%) remain sharply in negative territory.
HEMIX Q1β3/2023
Photography and gaming as reliable growth drivers
After nine months of 2023, the Home Electronics market stands at 31.8 billion euros β a decline of 6.1%. While most segments are weakening, video game consoles (+72.7%), audio/video accessories (+4.3%) and the photography segment remain on a positive course. Rising average prices for smartphones (+10.4%) and notebooks partially cushion the revenue declines.
HEMIX Q1β4/2023
Year of market correction: higher average prices slow the decline
The year 2023 closes with a decline of 4.4% to 47.3 billion euros. Positive momentum comes from photography, small electrical appliances (+1.7%), video game consoles (+58.4%) and A/V accessories. Higher average prices β smartphones above 700 euros for the first time β dampen revenue losses. Despite the decline, industry revenue is still eleven percent above the pre-pandemic year of 2019.
