HEMIX Home Electronics Market Index Q1/2025

The Home Electronic Market Index (HEMIX), the joint market research project of gfu Consumer & Home Electronics GmbH and GfK/NIQ, shows a slightly declining overall result for the first quarter of 2025: Revenue from home electronics products (HE) in the German market amounted to around 11.15 billion euros in the period from January to March 2025, 0.8 percent below the previous year’s level (Q1/2024: 11.24 billion euros). Within the overall market, the product groups developed very differently in some cases.

Development in Consumer Electronics

With revenue of around 7.0 billion euros, the Consumer Electronics (CE) segment in the first quarter of 2025 developed almost in parallel with the overall market compared with the same period of the previous year (-1.2%). Developments in the three CE segments were mixed: privately used telecommunications products generated revenue of just under 3.5 billion euros, a decline of 5.2 percent. Consumer electronics, by contrast, posted slight growth and reached revenue of 1.8 billion euros, corresponding to an increase of 1.9 percent. The market for privately used IT products also developed positively, reaching around 1.7 billion euros in revenue – an increase of 4.5 percent compared with the previous year.

Consumer electronics: TV market growing, video games under pressure, and photo and audio markets subdued but stable

Consumer electronics generated revenue of 1.8 billion euros in the first quarter of 2025 (+1.9% compared with Q1/2024). This growth was driven in particular by the TV business: sales of TV displays rose by 15.4 percent to around 1.2 million units, while the average selling price declined slightly. The resulting revenue amounted to 770 million euros (+7.5%). By contrast, the market for video game consoles declined: unit sales fell by 25.2 percent, with revenue decreasing accordingly by 23.4 percent.Β

Digital cameras recorded a 9.6 percent increase in unit sales, while revenue rose by 3.1 percent. Revenue from interchangeable lenses was also positive at 4.9 percent. In the home audio segment, however, revenue declined by 5.1 percent. A significant decline was recorded in particular for audio home systems (-22.6%) and smart audio (-11.4%), while loudspeakers increased revenue by 4.1 percent.

Telecommunications: Smartphone market slightly down

Revenue in the telecommunications segment, at just under 3.5 billion euros, was 5.2 percent below the previous year. Smartphone unit sales declined by 6.8 percent, with the average price rising slightly (+2.0%), resulting in a revenue decline of 4.9 percent.

Information technology: Robust development in PCs and peripherals

The information technology product group achieved revenue growth of 4.5 percent in the first quarter of 2025. The desktop PC segment stood out in particular, with unit sales up 26.1 percent and revenue growth of 20.8 percent. Revenue also increased for notebooks (+4.8%) and monitors (+2.4%). External storage solutions such as hard drives also benefited from increased demand, with revenue growth of 13.6 percent.

Small and large electrical appliances: A mixed picture

While the small electrical appliances segment grew by 2.8 percent to 1.8 billion euros, large electrical appliances recorded a revenue decline of 2.1 percent to just under 2.4 billion euros. This reinforces the trend toward stabilization in the large electrical appliances segment within white goods that has been observed for some time.

The market figures for the HE industry are collected jointly and uniformly for all market participants by the industry organization gfu Consumer & Home Electronics GmbH and GfK/NIQ in the form of the official Home Electronics Market Index HEMIX and published for each quarter.
