Outdoor kitchens – Enjoyment and Lifestyle Outdoors

Frankfurt am Main, June 11, 2026 – β€œOutdoor Living” – products for cooking and living in the open air have developed in Germany from a temporary phenomenon into a growth market. Away from the charcoal grill and toward a fully equipped and individually configured weatherproof cooking landscape, for example with a pizza oven, plancha plate, integrated refrigerators, and gas grills. With kitchen units that can be individually configured to suit the available space, manufacturers offer many variations for outdoor kitchens.

For many homeowners and garden owners, the outdoor kitchen is now a status symbol and lifestyle statement, comparable to a built-in kitchen indoors. This is also reflected in market figures: the market for outdoor cooking has grown significantly in recent years and, in the upper price segment, already generated global revenue of almost eight billion US dollars in 2020. This is expected to grow to almost eleven billion US dollars by 2034. In the DACH region, the market is expected to grow from 1.8 to 2.4 billion US dollars over the same period.

This trend is based not least on a social shift in the perception of outdoor areas. Outdoor kitchens have evolved from mere preparation areas into the central, structure-defining focal point in the garden or on the terrace. The focus is now largely no longer solely on the function of cooking and eating, but on the place itself as a social living space. The outdoor kitchen is now considered one of the most important wishes for one’s own outdoor area and is thus classified as an element of modern garden planning.

The background to the outdoor living movement began with the coronavirus pandemic and the retreat into one’s own four walls. Also due to the current geopolitical situation, vacations at home have gained in importance and continue to do so. In addition, rising costs for holiday travel and increased climate awareness are leading people to increasingly question the necessity of long-distance travel. The result is a growing trend toward β€œstaycations.” A high-quality outdoor kitchen can quickly become a β€œpiece of vacation at home.” The growing influence of Southern European cooking and dining culture, with convivial outdoor cooking, planchas, and pizza ovens, fits in well here. Not least, platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok are turning outdoor cooking into a visual and social trend. Cooking shows, food blogs, and lifestyle magazines are making the concept of the outdoor kitchen attractive and desirable for a younger and broad target group as well.
