Sharing experiences is becoming increasingly popular and, for many, is moving more and more to the center of activities. To make this possible, it is crucial to be able to capture moments in high quality, both photographically and videographically β without having to be a camera professional yourself. Accordingly, the quality and functionality of cameras are becoming increasingly important β a trend that is clearly reflected in the latest market figures.
Thus, the domestic market for action cams and fixed-lens cameras recorded significant revenue growth in the months from January to August 2025. Total revenue in the fixed-lens camera segment stands at 85 million euros, representing an increase of 34 percent compared with the same period of the previous year. The main driver of this growth is the Fixed Lens Large Sensor segment β high-quality cameras with a large image sensor and fixed lens that impress with their outstanding image quality. Unit sales in this area have also risen by 25 percent.
In the area of action cams, growth is evident both in classic action cams and in gimbal cameras [1], which are seeing strong demand as a product group for camcorders. The overall market for classic action cams reached revenue of 63 million euros from January to August 2025, corresponding to growth of 24 percent, with unit sales up 25 percent. Gimbal cameras generated revenue of 21 million euros over the same period, likewise with growth of 24 percent.[2]
Overall, revenue growth is being driven by rising demand for compact, high-performance camera solutions for leisure, sports, and content creation. In addition to the increase in revenue, unit sales have also risen significantly in recent months: around 200,000 action cams and approx. 228,000 fixed-lens cameras were already sold during the period mentioned.
The growing popularity of action cams is being driven largely by technical innovations: high-resolution sensors, improved image stabilization, and seamless integration with mobile devices give users an unprecedented level of flexibility when recording 4K and 8K videos. At the same time, fixed-lens cameras are benefiting from optimized lenses and expanded automatic functions, which offer hobby photographers in particular professional image quality without complex accessories.
βDemand for compact, powerful cameras is rising because consumers are increasingly opting for high-quality, ready-to-use devices that perform convincingly both outdoors and in everyday use,β explains Dr. Sara Warneke, Managing Director of GFU Home & Consumer Electronics GmbH. βWe assume that the increase in revenue is additionally being supported by stronger demand for accessories and cloud-based services. Manufacturers are increasingly focusing on connected ecosystems in which cameras, apps, and storage services are closely integrated to create a seamless experience for end users.β
