IFA Berlin 2023

A strong start into IFA’s 100th anniversary year

Sold-out halls and strong visitor numbers as IFA Berlin returns to full-strength

Berlin, 5 September 2023 – After five days of showcasing, experiencing and celebrating technology and innovation, IFA 2023 closes its doors today. It was IFA’s first return to full strength since the pandemic without restrictions, with more than 2,000 exhibitors across 130,000 square metres and 26 halls. Around 182,000 trade visitors and consumers from 138 countries came to Berlin to see the latest products and services in consumer electronics and home appliances.

This year’s IFA featured many new experiential areas, from a Sustainability Village and Robotics Hub to IFA Outdoors, which was located in the IFA’s iconic Sommergarten and packed with street food stands, fun activities, and areas for co-working, relaxation and contemplation. Football fans could meet their heroes of FC Union Berlin and Victoria Berlin.

Two well-received keynotes were given by Honor and Hisense. Honor showed how foldable technology will change the future of mobile devices and – beyond that – be used as a fashion accessory. Hisense highlighted the seamless integration of consumer-centric services across all screens in our homes and announced their official partnership with UEFA’s Euro 2024 football championship.

The IFA Leaders Summit on Friday and Saturday saw a wide array of top experts and industry leaders. They discussed issues like sustainability and the circular economy, the promise and potential of artificial intelligence, and disruptive technology trends like the Metaverse, robotics, the Internet of Things and new ways of reaching target groups via social media content.

As always, innovation was at the heart of IFA: From the product launches and announcements during the two media days last Wednesday and Thursday, to IFA NEXT. This innovation hub hosted 350 start-ups this year, connected them to more than 200 investors, saw pitch battles and a series of talks and panels with topics like ‘how to build a unicorn’ and ‘how to successfully collaborate with corporate partners’. The first IFA NEXT pitch battle saw 59 startups competing with each other; the winner was French startup Urban Cuisine with their connected indoor vegetable garden.

Berlin is one of Europe’s top technology hot spots, and that’s why IFA partnered this year with Berlin Tech Week for a reception at Berlin Soho House, organised an AI Sprint and AI Breakfast, hosted the Berlin Startup night and ran a gaming night at LVL World of Gaming.

“IFA Berlin is back – both as a platform and a constant for the global tech industry. As an event, we showed that IFA is rapidly evolving to meet the expectations of both exhibitors and visitors. IFA 2023 was a big success. But as always, the first day after IFA is the first day before IFA. That’s never been more true than today, as we will now prepare for celebrating IFA’s 100th birthday in 2024,” says Dr Sara Warneke, the Managing Director of industry organisation gfu Consumer & Home Electronics GmbH. “IFA under new management has proven to all involved that the 2023 edition has initiated the change that will set the direction for all future shows. IFA Management and its shareholders gfu and Clarion agree that a constantly evolving industry also requires a constant evolution of the IFA concept”, Dr Sara Warneke continues.

“We had less than eight months to get ready, but the team of IFA Management GmbH has worked wonders and delivered a wonderful and inspiring IFA. I’m truly proud of what we have achieved: evolving IFA Berlin from the world’s best show for consumer electronics and home appliances into a content-packed experience for all visitors,” says Oliver Merlin, the Managing Director of IFA Management GmbH. “The outlook for next year is promising. Many exhibitors have already committed to IFA 2024, and the government of the state of Berlin has also confirmed its full support for next year’s show”, Merlin adds.

Celebrating its 100th birthday, IFA 2024 will take place from 6 to 10 September in Berlin – and it’s already possible to pre-book exhibition space now.

IFA Statements

Michael Geisler, General Manager Electrolux Hausgeräte GmbH Germany and Austria

IFA 2023 provided the perfect setting to showcase our new AEG Ecoline and to launch the AEG SaphirMatt induction hob with scratch-resistant glass. The feedback from our retail partners and consumers was overwhelming – both in terms of our innovations and our beautiful stand. The many positive responses show us that our sustainable products have once again struck a chord with consumers.

Michael Sadranowski, Senior Vice President Sales AVM:

IFA 2023 has once again proven to be a popular place for exchanges with our customers and retailers. We are very satisfied and look forward to the next anniversary IFA 2024 with even more expectations.

Sebastian Kebbe, Managing Director Beurer GmbH:

The many efforts for this great event have been worth it and we can once again look back on a successful IFA. The EC 70 Emergency Wristband and the sustainably manufactured Green Planet products were in very high demand. Our innovative MenCare series, DentalCare and the new Woman’s Life range aroused particular interest. Fitness enthusiasts also benefit of our new Antelope by Beurer EMS products. We say “thank you” to our visitors for coming.

Roberto Cataneo, Blaupunkt, CEO Globaltronics GmbH & Co. KG:

It was great to be back in Berlin again this year and we are taking away many valuable impressions and important input from our conversations on site. We presented our new series of Audio Living products to the general public for the first time at IFA 23 and the numerous positive feedback from customers as well as our business partners provides us with exciting indications for the market launch of the products.

Karl Trautmann, Member of the ElectronicPartner Management Board:

In its 99 years IFA was once again an important „One-to-may-Chance“ for our buying group ElectronicPartner: Here is where the industry meets – compactly, intensivly and interactivly. The journey to Berlin has paid off for our national and international members, franchisees and of course for us too. We take so many positive impressions with us on our way home and are excited about 2024, when IFA will open its doors for the one hundred anniversary edition.

Rogier Volmer, Cluster Leader Dach & Managing Director Germany, Haier Germany GmbH:

I am delighted to share that my first IFA experience was a resounding success, surpassing our expectations. As part of the Connect to Extraordinary exhibition, we had the pleasure of welcoming a diverse range of visitors from Germany and around the world, and showcase our latest innovative solutions and cutting-edge services that are shaping the new era of living. The conversations with customers were especially enriching, providing valuable insights that will guide us to delivering smart and connected living experiences to meet customers’ needs. Moreover, the open discussions with our partners further strengthened our relationships, creating a solid foundation for future collaborations, showcasing the positive outcome of our efforts at the fair. We look forward to building upon this momentum and continuing to deliver extraordinary experiences to our valued customers, partners and consumers.

Ricky Ma, Head of EMEA Jackery

For us, IFA is a great opportunity to meet our business friends, make new contacts and, most importantly, present our portfolio of solar generators and power stations to the visitors. For us, the fair was a complete success with the launch of our latest models. The atmosphere was great, we received excellent feedback and valuable advice from customers and interested parties. We are already looking forward to the anniversary IFA next year.

Horst Nikolaus, Managing Director at JURA Elektrogeräte Vertriebs-GmbH:

We have never presented so many exciting innovations – including the J8 twin, the Z10 in the luxurious color Midnight Blue and the X10 for the professional sector. But it wasn’t just our new products that took center stage. The JURA booth was a popular meeting place for trade partners, media representatives and consumers for excellent coffee. In short: our presence at the fair was a success all along the line. This motivates us and our trade partners to look forward to the Christmas business.

Daniel Schiffbauer, Director Home Entertainment, LG Electronics:

Traditionally in Hall 18, our Sustainable Cottage received excellent feedback at an almost ideal capacity limit, while the wonderfully tastefully designed dealer area, although generously designed, even permanently very well attended, allowed great discussions. In the exciting run up to the 100th Birthday of IFA, the discussions with our customers were, as always, the absolute highlight. The value of IFA as an event is literally irreplaceable for us.

Aslan Khabliev, CEO Loewe Technology GmbH:

The connection between Loewe and IFA has a long tradition, and in keeping with our companies‘ 100th anniversary, we have revived this tradition in 2023 with two locations at the exhibition grounds: We were able to inspire many partners and customers with the Loewe iconic collection individualization concept and innovations from the TV & Audio segments, such as the new Loewe Multiroom Amplifier. IFA 2023 was an absolute success for us – we are looking forward to the upcoming 100th anniversary of IFA in 2024.

Friedrich Conzen, CEO Nedis Group:

We are very happy with our IFA trade fair appearance. The presentation of our new products at the Nedis SmartLife stand met great interest. We had successful talks with customers and new customers. This year the noticeably high number of international visitors on our stand was outstanding. Nedis supplies products to 35 different countries – at IFA we meet our customers in person.

Philipp Maurer, Country Manager GAS, Panasonic

Under the Holistic Wellbeing concept – our vision for the well-being of people, society and nature – Panasonic impressed at IFA 2023 with a consistently reduced ecological footprint. Our comprehensive product portfolio displayed in HUB27 was able to inspire trade visitors, the media and multipliers. We draw a very successful balance of this year’s trade fair and positively look forward to the IFA 100th anniversary 2024 with great excitement.

Mario Winter, Vice President Marketing, Samsung Electronics GmbH:

IFA 2023 has yet again shown that it is the major festival for consumer electronics and household appliances; a place that inspires, where new products are experienced up close, and valuable discussions take place with industry and trade partners. For us, IFA was all about strong partnerships. Only in this way, a fully connected future can become a reality. We are also pleased about the growing popularity of AI, which shows that consumers want smart connectivity and technology that supports them in their everyday lives. This enthusiasm for technology was palpable at IFA and allows us to look ahead with confidence.

Sascha Lange, Vice President Marketing and Sales, Sharp Consumer Electronics Deutschland GmbH:

– We are happy to be back at IFA again und utilize it as a multifunctional communication platform

– Our expectations were fully met and we felt very comfortable as always

– We were able to welcome our most important customers and media representatives and look into “the future” together

– We hope that IFA will continue its chosen path and make another leap forward next year on its round anniversary

Murat Yatkin, Managing Director TP Vision D/A/CH, Philips TV & Sound:

We had very good discussions with our trade partners at the IFA. We are grateful for this opportunity and glad about the positive feedback. All of this allows us to enter the important fourth quarter with optimism. For the future we would like to see an IFA that, in addition to its function as an industry meeting point, is also an event with attractive entertainment for various target groups.

Richard Wang, Founder and CEO Aiper Global:

We are very satisfied with the course of the fair. More and more people have pools in their gardens and are thus exposed to the annoying task of pool cleaning. The IFA offers us valuable opportunities with regard to the European market and the possibility to reach not only the pool specialists but the broad masses. As a result, we were not only able to hold many successful discussions with business partners but are particularly pleased with the positive feedback from end customers about our cordless pool cleaning robots and our new cordless robotic skimmer, which we presented for the first time at IFA.

Marius Stoica, Managing Director Beko Grundig Germany GmbH:

IFA 2023 was a great success for us. The atmosphere was fantastic, the response to our innovations and new products was overwhelming – from our business partners as well as from the press and consumers. Grundig’s new FineArts TV series and the AI-Sense washing machine were particularly well received, as was Beko’s new Energy Spin technology for even more energy-efficient washing. The number of visitors to our stand was high, among others we were able to welcome the Governing Mayor of Berlin Kai Wegner! We have impressively shown how important sustainability and quality are to us! We will build on this in 2024.

Sean Chen, Managing Director WEU, DREAME:

We have purposefully presented our world novelty here in Berlin, the patented “Mop-Extend-Technology”. This innovation enables our DREAME L20 Utra to clean floors much deeper into the corners and edges than devices of this kind have been able to do so far. The response to our development has been overwhelming and the IFA has clearly shown us that the European market for AI-controlled vacuuming and mopping robots is absolutely now ready, for the premium segment as well.

Dr. Stefan Mueller, CEO of expert SE:

For our expert shareholders, the exhibitors in our expert hall and the many visitors, we rate the IFA 2023 as a success. Our dealers and exhibitors have successfully used the IFA to exchange ideas about the latest industry developments in personal discussions. From virtual reality to toys and balcony power plants, visitors to our hall were also able to find out live about the latest and numerous innovations in our industry. I am confident about the development of the IFA, in which expert will be actively involved in the coming weeks and months, and am already looking forward to the anniversary IFA 2024 and all the others in the years to come.

Sühel Semerci, Executive Vice President Hisense Gorenje Germany GmbH:

“Our IFA conclusion is more than positive. We made a real statement with our appearance as lead partner at this year’s IFA! The fair provided us with an ideal platform to present Hisense and Gorenje as strong brands and communicate our ambitious goals.“

Ray Guo, CMO of HONOR:

The showcase of HONOR working with the IFA team was successful and impressive. We were delighted to announce our strategic vision for the future of smartphones at the IFA Opening Keynote stage, bringing to the consumers the lightest and slimmest inward foldable smartphone, HONOR Magic V2, and the HONOR V Purse, a new concept that reimagines a foldable smartphone as a fashion-forward purse, offering endless possibilities for style and self-expression. This stunning debut has drawn lots of attention, no matter at IFA Berlin 2023 or around the world.

Win Cramer, JLab CEO:

After the great success of our IFA participation last year, we were looking forward to this year’s show. And rightly so, because with the pandemic finally over, the influx this year was even higher and we were able to make great contacts as well as plan many exciting collaborations. In addition, we were not only able to present our latest headphone models to our partners and the trade show audience and take away interesting input from the discussions, but also used the IFA as an important global event to launch the JBuds Mini, the very first JLab product to be available around the world at the time of launch.

Christian May, Deputy Chief Executive Officer & Chief Sales Officer (CSO) at Alfred Kärcher SE & Co. KG:

We are extremely satisfied with the IFA. Visitors, media and customers were impressed by our innovations, such as the autonomous RCF 3 Robot Vacuum Cleaner and the exclusive “Signature Line”, products with the original signature of the company’s founder Alfred Kärcher printed on them. We are delighted with the positive response and are looking forward to future opportunities and partnerships arising from the fair.

Steffen Nagel, Managing Director, Sales & Marketing, Liebherr Appliances:

On the first day of the trade fair, an exciting anticipation spreads: IFA again! Also this year, it has been confirmed how enriching the personal exchange in this inspiring environment is. At the same time, we are overwhelmed by the feedback we have received on our energy-efficient new premium products. We will take these valuable impressions with us from Berlin and put them into our further work for our customers.

Dr. Reinhard Zinkann, Executive Director and Co-Proprietor Miele & Cie. KG:

Overall, we at Miele are happy with this IFA. Admittedly, the number of visitors from the specialist trade was slightly down compared to the previous year, with fewer people per dealer traveling to Berlin. There were also fewer international visitors, especially from Europe. Nevertheless, the discussions were very good and the incoming orders were promising. The spirits among the team and our guests were very high. In short, it was fun to be back in Berlin. A personal highlight was the enthusiastic feedback on our Miele Aerium laundry cabinet, a new product category for us. Now we are looking forward to next year, when it will be “100 years of IFA” – and “125 years of Miele”.

Peter Wildner, Founder and CEO of NIVONA:

May I describe the IFA to you with a sound? Click. That’s what you heard at our booth every minute, because our CUBE 4′ coffee machine with its Click Cup went down extremely well with visitors. We’ve been at the show for a long time. The response from our dealers has been very good at every IFA, but exceptional at this year’s edition. And for the NIVONA team, this IFA was also a wonderful event that once again showed what a fantastic team we are

Jon Arvidsson, Managing Director, Russell Hobbs Germany GmbH:

We are extremely satisfied with our appearance this year, the new booth layout & our innovative products were very well received from both trade and consumers. The re-freshed design really brought the Russell Hobbs brand message across as planned. Next year we are looking to build on our commitment and deliver even stronger performance, if even possible.

Lorna Brown, VP Marketing, Europe – SharkNinja:

This IFA was SharkNinja’s biggest ever. We launched nine innovative products for the EMEA region across Shark Clean, Shark Beauty, Ninja Kitchen and Ninja Outdoor. Over 100 journalists have visited the stand and we’ve received numerous best-in-show product awards from Consumer Tech Titles. SharkNinja also welcomed retail partners from across Europe, and we are excited for what’s to come next!

Pascal Pekcan, CEO Technaxx Germany:

IFA has been a great success for us this year and it has once again been confirmed how important the trade fair is for us as a company. We had many great conversations on site and received very positive feedback from business partners as well as from end customers for our new solar tabletop power plant, which we presented live for the first time in Berlin. So, we know that we are on the right track and are already looking forward to being part of IFA again next year.
