Insights & Trends 2022
Recap und Presentations

gfu Insights & Trends took place on July 13 at Messe Berlin’s City Cube. The experts’ presentations focused on sustainable action while keeping in mind economic factors. The 90-minute program highlighted how industry, business consulting and the insurance sector are facing up to sustainability challenges and have developed solutions to reduce resource and energy consumption over the entire life cycle of a product. The event was hosted by moderator Claudia Bechstein.

gfu Insights & Trends 2022 – Recap

Sustainable use and disposal of consumer and home electronics

At the start, consumers had their say. Dr. Sara Warneke, Managing Director of gfu Consumer & Home Electronics GmbH, and Dr. Martin Schulte, Global Sector Leader Consumer Durables at the management consultancy OliverWyman, presented and discussed a current consumer study conducted by gfu in cooperation with OliverWyman, which investigated consumers’ attitudes towards sustainability and their purchasing behaviour with regard to consumer and home electronics. One result of the study: almost two thirds of consumers say that sustainability is important to them when buying electrical household appliances and consumer electronics. However, the actual additional willingness to pay is strongly differentiated between consumer groups, product categories and sustainability features.

Patrick Hypscher, BSH Hausgeräte GmbH, presented the activities of BlueMovement, which offers consumers the opportunity to rent large Bosch brand household appliances instead of buying them. This enables a responsible use of valuable resources by refurbishing and reusing the appliances.

Melanie Mietzner, Wertgarantie, presented the campaign “Repair instead of throwing away”. With this campaign, the special insurer for household appliances is committed to reducing electronic waste and promoting the circular economy.

Dr. Helmut Spoo, Dr. Spoo Umwelt-Consulting, showed that the economy is undergoing a transformation process towards a circular economy. Energy saving, resource and climate protection and the production of recyclable products are urgent challenges, but also economic opportunities for the entire industry.
